J2EE - A Conceptual Overview
(or How to See the Forest for the Trees)
Monday 15:30 - 16:15 (Tutorial Room)
This is a 45 minute crash course in J2EE targeting both beginners and experienced J2EE developers. While J2EE comprises 1500+ pages of specifications, little of that body of text presents a general understanding of the core concepts of J2EE. But it is in there - between the lines - the spirit and insight of Linda DeMichiel, Mark Hapner, and many others. After reading through most of these specifications several times during the last few years, such a generalized understanding of the ideas behind J2EE has started to emerge in my head; and I would like to share that. So I will try to present - from a bird's eye view - how J2EE is intended to be understood, how it fits together; and hopefully the audience can walk away with a better appreciation of it all, and why J2EE has to bee so d*** complicated.
